FORM THREE SECOND TERM OPENING EXAMINATION 2026

This collection of Form Three Second Term Opening Examinations for July 2026 follows the official Tanzanian secondary school curriculum. Each paper is structured into three sections – Section A (16 marks), Section B (54 marks), and Section C (30 marks) – with a total duration of 3 hours. 🧬 Biology Examination
This paper focuses on advanced biological concepts and systems. It covers classification of plants including Coniferophyta and Angiospermophyta, types of movement and locomotion, the nervous system including the brain, neurons, reflex actions, and sensory organs such as the eye and ear. It also examines excretion and homeostasis, detailing the structure and function of the kidney, skin, nitrogenous wastes, and hormones like ADH and insulin. ⚗️ Chemistry Examination
This exam explores chemical principles and applications. It covers water hardness, its causes, effects, and methods of softening, electrolysis and conduction in solutions, mole calculations, molarity, and gas volumes at STP. It also includes properties of acids, bases, and salts, types of chemical reactions such as neutralization, oxidation, reduction, displacement, and precipitation, factors affecting reaction rates, and the role of catalysts. The assessment tests understanding of chemical quantities, solution preparation, titration, and industrial applications of electrolysis.

🤝 Civics Examination
This paper focuses on life skills, development, and socio-economic systems. It covers leadership qualities, teamwork, self-worth, and critical thinking as life skills. It also explains the concept of development, its dimensions, material and non-material indicators, and types of poverty. Additional topics include economic sectors such as private, public, and informal, financial institutions like the Bank of Tanzania and SACCOS, social services, poverty reduction strategies, and the role of civil society organizations. The exam assesses understanding of governance, national development, and responsible citizenship.

🇬🇧 English Language Examination
This paper evaluates advanced language proficiency and communication skills. It covers reading techniques such as intensive and extensive reading, listening skills for general and specific information, and preparation for job interviews. It also includes grammar skills such as reported speech, sentence construction, and vocabulary, as well as literary elements like plot, character, theme, setting, and figures of speech. Writing tasks include narrative compositions, dialogues, book reviews, and formal analysis of texts. The assessment tests comprehension, expression, and appreciation of literary works.

🌍 Geography Examination
Geography content focuses on internal earth structure, landforms, and environmental processes. It includes layers of the Earth, rocks and the rock cycle, vulcanicity, earthquakes, weathering, and mass wasting. It also covers river systems and their features, wind action in deserts, coastal processes, soil formation and conservation, and atmospheric structure. The exam includes map reading, interpretation of relief features, and analysis of natural processes and their influence on human activities.

📜 History Examination
This paper covers the colonial era and African resistance. It includes the Scramble for Africa, the Berlin Conference, reasons for European expansion, and different colonial administrative systems such as direct rule and indirect rule. It also examines African resistance movements like Majimaji, Hehe, and Nandi wars, the structure and features of the colonial economy, labour systems, and agricultural production. The assessment tests understanding of historical events, causes and effects of colonialism, and its long-term impacts on African societies.

🗣️ Mtihani wa Kiswahili
Mtihani huu unajumuisha sarufi, lugha, na fasihi kwa kiwango cha juu. Inashughulikia ngeli za nomino, viambishi, aina za tungo, vishazi, na kirai. Pia inachambua asili ya Kiswahili, lahaja zake, na jinsi biashara na utawala zilivyochangia ukuaji wa lugha hiyo. Sehemu ya fasihi inajumuisha hakiki ya riwaya, tamthiliya, hadithi fupi, vipengele vya fani kama vile wahusika, mandhari, dhamira, na tamathali za semi. Mtihani unajaribu uwezo wa kuelewa na kutumia lugha kwa usahihi, pamoja na kuchambua kazi za fasihi.

📚 Literature in English Examination
This paper introduces the study of literature and its forms. It defines literature, its functions, and differences between oral and written literature. It covers oral genres such as myths, legends, fables, proverbs, and riddles, as well as written genres including novels, short stories, and plays. Key elements of literary analysis such as plot, character, theme, setting, conflict, and figures of speech like simile, metaphor, and personification are examined. The assessment tests the ability to read, interpret, and appreciate literary works and their social messages.

🧮 Mathematics Examination
This paper covers advanced numerical and analytical skills. It includes number theory, LCM and GCF, indices, logarithms, and surds. It also covers set theory, coordinate geometry, linear equations, profit and loss, commercial arithmetic, sequences and series, and trigonometry. Additional topics include statistics, circles, transformations, functions, and bearings. The exam tests logical reasoning, algebraic manipulation, and application of mathematical concepts to solve real-world problems.

🔭 Physics Examination
This exam covers forces, motion, light, heat, and gases. It includes scalar and vector quantities, Newton’s laws of motion, friction, and resultant forces. It also examines light phenomena such as reflection, refraction, dispersion, and optical instruments like microscopes and lenses. Thermal physics includes thermal expansion, kinetic theory of matter, and gas laws. The assessment tests understanding of physical laws, calculations, and explanation of natural and technological applications.
